Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. A wish gives children renewed energy and strength, brings families closer together and unites communities. Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 285,000 wishes to children in the U.S. and its territories; more than 15,300 in 2016 alone.
Make-A-Wish Illinois recently granted an 11 year old from Bolingbrook's wish to go to Italy! For three years, Carter has been fighting leukemia. Though he’s only 11, he is an old soul, who loves to chat and is interested in history, politics and cooking. A fan of Dan Brown thrillers, he decided a trip to Italy would allow him to indulge all of his interests.
He enjoyed the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. At a class in Florence, the family learned to cook an amazing dinner, including making pasta from scratch. They have a new tradition of “real” Italian nights where they recreate the meal at home.
“Carter’s wish was one of the more positive memories we’ll have of this time period,” his mom said. “Seeing him able to fully enjoy the experience after everything he has gone through meant a lot.”
